Zesty though tamales, enchiladas or shrimp steamed in tequila may be, Acapulco’s line-up of restaurants extends far beyond basic and gourmet Mexican fare. Popular American, Italian and seafood dishes, along with elaborate multi-course menus featuring international and Continental cuisines, are standard around the natural harbor of Bahía de Acapulco (Acapulco Bay), serving as the city's centerpiece. Restaurants themselves range from thatched roof, open-air taco huts and burger joints along the beach to sophisticated temples of haute cuisine touting the likes of smoked trout souffle. Most restaurants catering to visitors purify their drinking and cooking water. It’s wise to order bottled water, soft drinks without ice, beer, or wine to accompany meals.
